Trade Unions Protest in Kolkata against Lock-out in Maruti
STRUGGLING TRADE UNIONS in Kolkata protested against the lock-out in Maruti plant on 25th July. Many workers from different trade unions gathered in front of L&T Chambers at Camac street, Kolkata where the Maruti Suzuki Limited Kolkata office is situated. The trade unions activists raised slogans against Maruti management and Haryana government. They have demanded immediate withdrawal of illegal lock-out and asked to put an end to the repressive measures on the entire working people surrounding the Maruti factory by the hired goons and police. Activists demanded independent enquiry. Later a delegation comprising representatives from TUCI, IFTU, NTUI, AICCTU and SSU met the officials of Maruti Suzuki Ltd. Kolkata and a written memorandum submitted where in they have asked to convey the demands of workers of West Bengal.
They informed the officials in Kolkata that Bengal trade unions and workers are deeply concerned about the anti-labour actions of Maruti management and Haryana government. They have warned Maruti management more militant actions if the repressive measures are not stopped immediately. On 26th the representatives of struggling trade unions met in a joint meeting and chalked out different protest programmes. Alik Chakraborty, Shikla Buimali (TUCI), Dwepayan (AICCTU), Ashis Dasgupta (IFTU), Pratip Nag, Pradip Ray (NTUI) were represented in the joint meeting.
